Music & Mental Health Los Gatos
Music and Mental Health is a groundbreaking Initiative designed to use music and my mental health lyrics to gradually change the landscape of mental health for young people in all parts of the country. This year we will be doing a search for a talented up-and-coming artist to put one of the songs to music and sing! For more information, visit musicandmentalhealth.com
Dr. Patrice Wolters’ work cultivates the consciousness of empowerment through healing feelings of shame, insecurity and low self-esteem.
This sense of empowerment evolves as one:
- Increases the capacity to master the physical and psychological challenges of life,
- Develops positive coping skills that lead to success in life, and
- Cultivates self-acceptance, self-esteem and compassion for oneself and others.
The four goals of the initiative are for parents, young people and mental health professionals to:
- Learn to identify red flags that signal mood disorders and other mental health conditions.
- Learn therapeutic ways of thinking to replace dysfunctional thinking patterns.
- Learn positive coping tools (exercise, meditation, etc.) to promote success in life.
- Reduce stigmas associated with having a mental health condition.
This initiative is based on the premise that everyone should have equal access to health, security and self-sufficiency.
In addition to the songs that Dr. Wolters has created, she has also written articles that are aimed at reaching the goals of the initiative. To hear a sample of songs click here.
Memorization of the verses is key. This enables people to easily access the lyrics when having a stream of negative thoughts. The process of using both music and words effectively engages both sides of the brain.
With more than 25 years of experience in the mental health field, Dr. Wolters brings profound experience to the table when working with clients in this innovative manner.

“As a football player my favorite line is ‘Set goals, and work up a sweat. And whatever you do always do your best.’ because my coach always pushes us to do our best and give our 110 percent. Also working up a sweat is something I look forward to and is a sign of hard work.”
