While many people suffering from severe depression do seek and get the professional help they need, according to a survey conducted by the National Institute of Mental Health nearly half of all Americans diagnosed with major depression don’t receive the treatment they require. In other words, more than 7 million Americans suffering from depression aren’t receiving adequate treatment.

As if the above figures aren’t staggering enough, studies conducted by labor organizations have calculated that depression results in more than $19 billion in lost income each year due to sick leave and other work absences alone.

The costs society pays for depression are almost unimaginable, not to mention the emotional costs paid by those individuals who don’t receive the help they need.

    I remember I was dealing with depression for both my image problem and my lack of a relationship with my father. Dr. Wolters has taught me various skills and techniques to deal with my depression. I can proudly say that today I am no longer suffering from depression and that I am very happy. During the early years of my depression it was a dark time in my life. I chose to seek help from Dr. Wolters and she took me under her wing to help improve my self-esteem and my confidence.       Thanks for the wonderful message!! I want readers to know that one important tool is to develop a routine for your day. Lay out a plan that will get you going if you are in a funk and starting your day with some exercise will help you bust a mood. Exercise and changing how you think are often as effective as medication is treating depression. Remember that depression falls on a continuum as does bipolar. You can have alittle bit of bipolar (1 to 3–know as soft bipolar) or something up around 7-8 which may require some medication. If you struggle with a mood challenge do Not label yourself and remember you are not responsible for your genes. But hold onto the concept of being Mood Challenged!! as that is exactly what mental health conditions are.
